Stroke Physiotherapy at Home

A stroke can change things quickly- walking, using an arm or hand, balance, confidence in everyday tasks. The reassuring part is that the brain keeps adapting for a long time after the stroke itself, and physiotherapy is one of the main ways to support that. I provide specialist stroke rehabilitation at home across Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding villages, whether you’re newly home from hospital or further into your recovery and looking to build on progress.

My one to one sessions focus on task-specific practice (the actual movements and activities that matter to you), upper limb rehabilitation, gait re-education, balance and falls prevention, and managing spasticity and shoulder pain. I track progress with standardised outcome measures- so we both have a clear picture of what’s changing.

Stairs, thresholds, an uneven garden path, the exact chair you get up from several times a day- these are the details that actually decide how independent you feel, and they’re hard to properly recreate in a clinic. Treating you at home means your rehabilitation is built around your real environment from the first session, and it removes travel as a barrier at exactly the point when fatigue and mobility make it hardest.

Frequently asked questions

How soon after a stroke can physiotherapy start?

Often within days of leaving hospital, and sometimes sooner if you’re being supported at home from the outset. Earlier, consistent input tends to support better outcomes, though it’s never too late to start or restart rehabilitation.

Will physiotherapy still help if my stroke was years ago?

Yes. Most recovery happens in the first six months, but the brain’s capacity to adapt doesn’t switch off after that point. Many people I see are further into their recovery and want focused, one to one input to work past a plateau.

Do you work alongside my GP, consultant or NHS stroke team?

Yes- with your consent, I’m happy to liaise with your GP, consultant or any other professionals involved in your care, and to share relevant updates.
