Parkinson’s Disease Physiotherapy at Home

Parkinson’s affects everyone differently, and it changes over time- which is exactly why physiotherapy for Parkinson’s needs to be personal and ongoing, not a one-off block of sessions. I provide specialist Parkinson’s physiotherapy at home across Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone and the surrounding villages, working with you at whatever stage you are at, from a recent diagnosis through to more complex, longer-standing symptoms.

My focus includes gait re-education and strategies for freezing episodes, balance training and falls prevention, managing rigidity and bradykinesia, posture, and functional exercises that support everyday tasks like getting out of a chair or turning safely.

Parkinson’s symptoms are often at their most challenging in exactly the situations a clinic can’t replicate – freezing at your own front door, turning in a narrow hallway, getting off a low sofa, managing stairs when medication is wearing off. Seeing you at home means we can work directly on the specific moments that affect your day, and build a home exercise routine that actually fits around your medication timing and daily rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

Can physiotherapy help if I’ve just been diagnosed?

Yes – starting physiotherapy early, even with mild symptoms, is recommended, and can help build strength, confidence and movement strategies before more significant difficulties develop.

What is “freezing” and can physiotherapy really help?

Freezing is a sudden, temporary inability to move, often when starting to walk, turning, or approaching a doorway. Cueing strategies- a rhythm, a visual line to step over, a count – can often help break a freeze and reduce how often it happens.

Do you time sessions around my medication?

Yes, where possible. Parkinson’s symptoms can vary significantly through the day depending on medication timing, so I’ll usually plan sessions around your “on” periods, and it can also be useful to see how things look when medication is wearing off.

How often would I need physiotherapy?

This depends entirely on what you are working on. We’d agree a plan together, and it’s something we can revisit as things change.
